Title
(EN) Improvements in or relating to method of and apparatus for processing of plastic material
Abstract
(EN) 606,167. Processing rubber-like material. FIRESTONE TIRE & RUBBER CO. March 1, 1946, No. 6387. Convention date, March 8, 1945. [Class 70] Rubber-like plastic material is processed by mixing a batch of the material and concurrently incorporating initial compounding ingredients therein, dividing the batch into pellets, and subsequently mixing the pellets and concurrently incorporating additional ingredients therein. In a preferred method, compounding ingredients such as carbon black, are fed from a bin 22, Fig. 1, to a mixer of the Banbury" type 20, the resulting composition passes to pelletizer 25 after which the pellets may be dusted with soapstone, talc, or whiting by attachment 26, cooled in unit 27, preferably by water and then dried in a plurality of units 30. The dried pellets then fall into charge bin 33 and are elevated at intervals by pneumatic pressure into receiver 35 from which they pass periodically by means of screw conveyer 38 into storage bin 39 and then into disintegrator 44, thence by a vibratory hopper 45 onto belt conveyer 46, the operation of which is automatically controlled by scales 47 and into another " Banbury type mixer 49 in which vulcanizers and accelerators may be added. The final composition may be sheeted on a mill 51. All motors and units may be operated by an automatic system of relay switches. In a modification (not shown) the pellets are conveyed to storage by means of buckets on an endless conveyer.
