Abstract
(EN) A comfort layer (16) for a bedding or seating product comprises a matrix of mini coil springs (28), a first ply of fabric (23) on a top side of the matrix of mini coil springs (28), and a second ply of fabric (25) on a bottom side of the matrix of mini coil springs (28), the first and second plies of fabric (23, 25) being joined with circular weld seams (30) comprising spaced curved weld segments (26) with gaps (31) therebetween around each of the mini coil springs (28) to create individual pockets (44) which contain the mini coil springs (28). When at least some of the mini coil springs (28) in at least some of the pockets (44) are subjected to a load air moves between the pockets (44) through the gaps (31) between the curved weld segments (26) of the circular weld seams (30) and exits perimeter pockets (44) into the atmosphere, the rate of compression of the mini coil springs (28) being slowed by the size of the gaps (31) between the curved weld segments (30) of the circular weld seams (30), and when the load is removed, a rate of return of the comfort layer (16) to its original height depends upon the mini coil springs (28) in the at least some pockets (44) returning to their original height, causing separation of the plies of fabric (23, 25) and drawing air into the pockets (44) through the gaps (31) between the curved weld segments (26) of the circular weld seams (30).
