(EN) A distributed optical fibre sensor is described. The sensor uses a sensor fibre (10) having a low or zero intrinsic birefringence that is responsive to an environmental parameter (24) such as pressure. Probe light pulses having a diversity of launch polarisation states are used to reduce signal fading and polarisation dependent loss in the retardation beat frequency signals which are sensed (20) and then analysed (22) to determine the environmental parameter as a profile along the sensor fibre.
(FR) L'invention concerne un capteur de fibre optique réparti. Le capteur utilise une fibre de détection (10) comportant une biréfringence intrinsèque nulle ou faible qui est sensible à un paramètre environnemental (24) tel qu'une pression. Les impulsions de lumière sonde dotées d'une diversité d'états de polarisation d'attaque sont utilisées pour réduire l'affaiblissement de signal et la perte dépendant de la polarisation dans les signaux de fréquence de battement de retard qui sont détectés (20) et ensuite analysés (22) pour déterminer le paramètre environnemental en tant que profil le long de la fibre de détection.
