A low-density gel product of the present disclosure has a coating layer on a surface thereof, the coating layer being composed of a polymer of a gas-phase polymerizable monomer. The low-density gel product of the present disclosure has an improved mechanical strength. The low-density gel product is, for example, an aerogel or xerogel. The low-density gel product can be, for example, in the form of a monolithic body such as a sheet or in the form of particles. The gas-phase polymerizable monomer is, for example, at least one selected from an olefin, styrene, a styrene derivative, (meth)acrylic acid, a (meth)acrylic acid ester, para-xylylene, and a para-xylylene derivative.

La présente invention concerne un article en gel à faible densité présentant, sur sa surface, une couche de revêtement constituée par un monomère polymérisable polymérisé dans une phase gazeuse. Cet article en gel à faible densité présente une résistance mécanique améliorée. L'article en gel à faible densité est, par exemple, un aérogel ou un xérogel. L'article en gel à faible densité peut, par exemple, être un article monobloc tel qu'une feuille, ou des particules. Le monomère polymérisable en phase gazeuse est, par exemple, au moins un monomère choisi parmi les oléfines, le styrène, les dérivés de styrène, l'acide (méth)acrylique, les esters d'acide (méth)acrylique, les dérivés de p-xylylène et de p-xylylène.
