(EN) An electrocautery device is disclosed. In accordance with one aspect of the invention, the electrocautery electrode/tip is provided with a hollow, conductive tube terminating at its distal end in a ball point type tip. Fluid, preferably conductive fluid, is applied to the proximal end of the hollow electrode/tip, and expelled from the distal end thereof during electrocautery. The conductive fluid is supplied by a pressurized canister. The ball point distal tip allows the distal tip to be directly applied to the tissue and "rolled" or slid along the tissue. This allows the distal tip to be moved across the tissue without dragging or snagging on the tissue. In addition, the conductive fluid expelled from the distal tip further lubricates the distal tip as it moves across the tissue. If conductive fluid is used, the conductive fluid emanating from the electrode/tip conducts the RF electrocautery energy away from the distal tip so that it is primarily the fluid, rather than the distal tip that actually accomplishes the cauterizing of tissue. That is, the fluid serves as a "virtual" electrocautery electrode. Since it is the fluid, rather than the distal tip that cauterizes, coagulates and ablates, no burns or perforations are made to the tissue, reducing the amount of debris at the site. Also, the flow of fluid through the electrode/tip tends to keep the distal tip clean and cool.
(FR) L'invention se rapporte à un dispositif d'électrocautérisation, et selon un aspect de cette invention, l'électrode/pointe d'électrocautérisation est pourvue d'un tube conducteur, creux, se terminant au niveau de son extrémité distale par une pointe de type pointe bille. Le fluide, de préférence conducteur, est appliqué sur l'extrémité proximale de l'électrode/pointe creuse et expulsé de l'extrémité distale au cours de l'électrocautérisation. L'extrémité distale de la pointe bille peut être appliquée directement sur le tissu et 'roulée' ou glissée le long du tissu. Ceci permet de déplacer l'extrémité distale sur le tissu sans traîner sur le tissu ou s'accrocher à celui-ci. De plus, le fluide conducteur expulsé de l'extrémité distale lubrifie également cette dernière au moment où elle se déplace dans le tissu. Si un fluide conducteur est utilisé, le fluide émanant de l'électrode/pointe conduit l'énergie radioélectrique de cautérisation dans un sens qui l'éloigne de l'extrémité distale de façon à ce que ce soit principalement le fluide plutôt que l'extrémité distale qui effectue réellement la cautérisation du tissu, le fluide servant ainsi d'électrode 'virtuelle' d'électrocautérisation. Du fait que le fluide plutôt que l'extrémité distale cautérise, coagule et effectue l'ablation, il n'y a ni brûlures, ni perforations dans le tissu, et cela réduit la quantité de débris sur le site. L'écoulement du fluide par l'électrode/pointe permet de garder l'extrémité distale propre et fraîche.
