Abstract

In a drum brake for heavy vehicles liable to make brake noise during brake activation the noise may be eliminated by applying to the outside of the brake drum (3) a layer (14, 15) of a non-metallic, at least partly elastically deformable material and a steel ring (16) causing a substantial compression force upon the drum (3) via the non-metallic layer (14, 15), the said steel ring (16) being mounted by being opened by a radial cut, heavily pre-stressed and finaly closed by being welded in place. According to the invention it has been possible to weld such heavy steel ring (16) in place by welding a steel sheet (18) to the inner side of the ring (16) prior to the mounting of the steel ring (16) around the brake drum (3), said steel sheet (18) being directed concentrically towards the inner cylindrical surface of the ring (16) on the other side of the ring opening.

Dans un frein à tambour pour véhicules lourds, qui est susceptible de faire du bruit, ce bruit peut être éliminé en appliquant sur la surface extérieure du tambour de frein (3) une couche (14, 15) d'une matière non métallique, déformable élastiquement au moins en partie, et un anneau d'acier (16) appliquant une force de compression considérable au tambour (3) par l'intermédiaire de la couche non métallique (14, 15). On met en place cet anneau d'acier (16) en l'ouvrant grâce à une coupure radiale, en lui faisant subir une précontrainte importante et, finalement, en le fermant par soudage sur place. Selon l'invention, il a été possible de souder en place un anneau lourd en acier (16) de ce genre en soudant une feuille d'acier (18) sur la surface intérieure de l'anneau (16) avant de monter l'anneau d'acier (16) autour du tambour de frein (3), cette feuille d'acier (18) étant dirigée concentriquement vers la surface cylindrique intérieure de l'anneau (16), de l'autre côté de l'ouverture de l'anneau.
