Die Erfindung betrifft eine phosphoreszente Metallkomplexverbindung, Verfahren zur Herstellung dazu und ein strahlungsemittierendes Bauelement, insbesondere eine lichtemittierende organische elektrochemische Zelle (organic light emitting electrochemical cell OLEEC). Einige der hier erstmals gezeigten blauen Emitter, insbesondere die hier vorgestellte Klasse der Iridium-Komplex-Carbenverbindungen, sind die blauesten Emitter, die zurzeit ├╝berhaupt existieren.
