(EN) The invention relates to an elevator system (100) with a first cab pair (A) that comprises two elevator cabs (A1, A2) and with a second cab pair (B) that comprises two elevator cabs (B1, B2). The cab pairs (A, B) can be moved in a double shaft (10). The elevator system also comprises first driving means (20) for moving the two elevator cabs (A1, A2) of the first cab pair in an opposite manner with respect to each other, and comprising second driving means for moving the two elevator cabs (B1, B2) of the second cab pair in an opposite manner with respect to each other, said first cab pair (A) or said second cab pair (B) being in motion while a first elevator cab of the respective other cab pair can be found at a bottom floor (Su) of the elevator system (100) and the second elevator cab of said cab pair can be found at a top floor (So) of the elevator system (100). Furthermore, a change-over zone (Z) is provided in the double shaft (10), said change-over zone permitting a lateral change-over of the elevator cabs (A1, A2, B1, B2) of the cab pair that is in motion, wherein one elevator cab (A1, B1) can continue to be moved on the travel path of the other elevator cab (A2, B2).
