To provide a support device for a steering column, wherein a steering wheel is easily tuned such that the steering wheel can be stably displaced to the front during a secondary collision, a vehicle-side bracket (11) and a column-side bracket (33) do not strongly grind against one another, and the absolute value and dispersion of a separation load are restricted. An elongated section (57) and a curved protruding surface (58) formed on the front end upper surface of the elongated section (57) are disposed on the upper plate (55) of the column-side bracket (33). As a consequence, the surface pressure at a location in which the upper surface front-end section of the upper plate (55) comes into contact with the bottom surface of the vehicle-side bracket (11) is prevented from increasing on the basis of the moment applied to the column-side bracket (33) from a steering column (6c) while the upper surface front-end section of the upper plate (55) becomes pressed against the bottom surface of the vehicle-side bracket (11) during a secondary collision.
