(EN) A communication apparatus, which is a receiving side communication apparatus for decoding LDPC-encoded words, comprises an in-progress result holding part (21) that holds an in-progress result of the decoding process; a row processing part (22) that repetitively executes, a predetermined number of times, a row processing which calculates a column processing LLR about the columns and rows of a test matrix; and a column processing part (23) that repetitively executes, a predetermined number of times, a column processing which calculates a row processing LLR about the columns and rows of the test matrix and which holds, into the in-progress result holding part (21), the smallest absolute k-value of the row processing LLR of row weights. The row processing part (22) and column processing part (23) alternately execute their respective processings on a column-to-column basis. The column processing part (23) updates the smallest k-values of the respective rows in a cyclic manner, while the row processing part (22) uses an approximately smallest value to perform the calculation.
