The invention relates to a filter system and to a method for filtering an analog signal. The inventive filter system comprises an analog to digital converter (AD) with an input to which an analog filter input signal (FES) is supplied, and with an output at which an impulse signal (IS) is available that comprises a sequence of impulses, the number of the impulses per time unit depending on the magnitude of the filter input signal (FES). The filter system is further provided with a counter system (ZA) to which the impulse signal (IS) is supplied and that contains at least one counter (Z; Z1, Z2). At least once during an interval of evaluation (Ta) a counter reading (ZS) of the at least one counter (Z; Z1, Z2) is supplied to a digital to analog converter (DA) to produce an analog filter output signal (FAS), the amplitude of the filter output signal (FAS) depending on the value of the counter reading.
