The invention provides a multi-operating system multimedia data coding and decoding method and apparatus, an electronic device and a computer program product. The method comprises the steps of in a client operating system, obtaining a coding and decoding request of a multimedia application to perform multimedia data coding and decoding processing, the coding and decoding request comprising the multimedia data for coding and decoding processing; sending the coding and decoding request to a host operating system; in the host operating system, receiving the coding and decoding request; and sending the coding and decoding request to an OpenMAX integration layer in the host operating system so as to enable the OpenMAX integration layer in the host operating system to perform coding and decoding processing of the multimedia data according to the coding and decoding request. The client operating system is not required to occupy resources of a client CPU to perform coding and decoding processing of the multimedia data, and client power consumption is reduced. The client operating system supports coding and decoding processing of the multimedia data of more formats, the data processing process is accelerated, and playing is smooth.
