Abstract

A method for activating safety systems of a motor vehicle (1 ), the method comprising the steps of: monitoring signals from at least one vehicle sensor (5-10); analysing the signals from the at least one sensor (5-10) to determine that the vehicle (1 ) appears to be involved in a particular one of a plurality of pre-defined "run off the road" events: confirming the determination by analysing signals from at least one different vehicle sensor (5-10), performing a different analysis on the signals from the at least one sensor (5-10), or analysing signals from the at least one sensor (5-10) over a predetermined period of time; where a detection is confirmed, estimating the severity of the event; and based on a confirmed determination that the vehicle (1 ) is involved in a particular event, and the estimated severity of the event, selecting one or more vehicle safety systems to be activated to protect an occupant of the vehicle (1 ).

L'invention concerne un procédé pour activer des systèmes de sécurité d'un véhicule à moteur (1), ce procédé comprenant les étapes suivantes : surveiller les signaux provenant d'au moins un capteur de véhicule (5-10) ; analyser les signaux provenant du ou des capteur(s) (5-10) afin de déterminer si le véhicule (1) est impliqué dans un événement particulier d'une pluralité d'événements de "sortie de route" prédéfinis ; confirmer la détermination par l'analyse de signaux provenant d'au moins un autre capteur de véhicule (5-10), mettre en oeuvre une analyse différente sur les signaux provenant du ou des capteur(s) (5-10), ou analyser les signaux provenant du ou des capteur(s) (5-10) sur une période temporelle prédéterminée ; si la détection est confirmée, estimer la gravité de l'événement ; et, sur la base d'une détermination confirmée que le véhicule (1) est impliqué dans un événement particulier, et de la gravité estimée de l'événement, sélectionner un ou plusieurs systèmes de sécurité de véhicule devant être activé(s) pour protéger un occupant du véhicule (1).
