Provided is a stop control device for controlling the stop position of a piston of an internal combustion engine to be at a desired position. After an ignition switch is turned off, a valve open degree of an intake air mass flow control valve is determined according to a detected engine rpm and a detected crank angle so as to control the intake air mass flow control valve to be set at the determined valve open degree. For example, the valve open degree of the intake air mass flow control valve is determined to control the open degree of the intake air mass flow control valve in accordance with the crank angle when the detected engine rpm is lowered to a predetermined range. Thus, the intake air mass flow of the engine can be increased so that the piston stop position is set at a desired position.
