CLAIMS

The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:

1. A hand puppet having real time sound-generation capability, said hand puppet comprising:

a body portion including a neck portion, a head portion, and a mouth portion;

a plurality of electronic components that sense a series of movements of the hand puppet by a user and generate a signal based on said movements;

a main circuit board communicating with the plurality of electronic components wherein the signal received from one or more of said plurality of electronic components by the main circuit board is processed for transmission based on the series of movements of the hand puppet;

a speaker that receives a transmission from said main circuit board and produces a sound corresponding to said transmission received from the main circuit board; and

a power source for the operation of the hand puppet.

2. The hand puppet of claim 1 , wherein the mouth portion of the hand puppet is comprised of a nose, a tongue, an upper jaw and a lower jaw.

3. The hand puppet of claim 1, wherein the plurality of electronic components includes a plurality of accelerometers, a pressure sensor, and a plurality of proximity sensors.

4. The hand puppet of claim 3, wherein the plurality of accelerometers are located in the mouth portion of the hand puppet.

5. The hand puppet of claim 4, wherein one of the plurality of accelerometers is located in the upper jaw of the hand puppet and the other accelerometer is located in the lower jaw of the hand puppet.

6. The hand puppet of claim 5, wherein the plurality of accelerometers sense a distance between the plurality of accelerometers during the movement of the hand puppet' s upper and lower jaw.

7. The hand puppet of claim 3, wherein the pressure sensor is located in the roof of the upper jaw of the hand puppet.

8. The hand puppet of claim 7, wherein the pressure sensor measures the pressure applied by when the upper jaw and the lower jaw solely on to the hand puppet or onto another object.

9. The hand puppet of claim 3, wherein the plurality of proximity sensors are located in the nose of the mouth portion of the hand puppet.

10. The hand puppet of claim 9, wherein the plurality of proximity sensors detect the proximity of the hand puppet to an external object or a person.

11. The hand puppet of claim 1 , wherein the main circuit board processes input data received from the plurality of accelerometers, the pressure sensor, and the plurality of proximity sensors and generates an transmission signal for a sound corresponding to the series of movements of the hand puppet;

12. The hand puppet of claim 1, wherein the speaker is activated upon receipt of the transmission signal from the main circuit board and the speaker is situated in the lower jaw of the hand puppet

13. The hand puppet of claim 12, wherein the lower jaw defines a plurality of holes centered in the front of the body such that the sound produced by the speaker is emitted through said plurality of holes.

14. The hand puppet of claim 1, wherein the power source is one or more batteries.

15. The hand puppet of claim 1, wherein the neck portion, the head portion, and the mouth portion are designed to resemble an animal.

16. The hand puppet of claim 1, wherein the head portion of the hand puppet is comprised of a pair of ears and a pair of eyes.

17. A method for the generation of real-time electronic sound in a hand puppet comprising the steps of:

sensing, using a plurality of electronic components, a movement of the hand puppet by a user;

transmitting a first signal from the plurality of electronic components to a main circuit board, the first signal generated based upon the movement of the hand puppet by the user and including data regarding the movement of the hand puppet;

processing the first signal by the main circuit board;

generating a second signal corresponding to a sound based on the movements of the hand puppet;

transmitting the second signal from the main circuit board to a speaker housed within the hand puppet;

generating a sound based upon the second signal received by the speaker; and

emitting the sound through a plurality of holes.

18. The method of claim 17 , wherein the plurality of electronic components includes a plurality of accelerometers, a pressure sensor, and a plurality of proximity sensors.

19. The method of claim 18, further comprising sensing a distance between the plurality of accelerometers during the movement of the hand puppet.

20. The method of claim 19, further comprising transmitting the signal from the plurality of accelerometers to the main circuit board for processing based on the sensed distance between the plurality of accelerometers when an upper jaw and a lower jaw is opened and closed.

21. The method of claim 18, further comprising sensing, with the pressure sensor, a pressure between the upper jaw and the lower jaw.

22. The method of claim 21, wherein the pressure between the upper jaw and the lower jaw is applied solely onto the hand puppet or to another object.

23. The method of claim 22, further comprising transmitting the signal from the pressure sensor to the main circuit board for processing based on the sensed pressure between the upper jaw and lower jaw.

24. The method of claim 18, further comprising sensing, with the plurality of proximity sensors, a distance between the hand puppet and an external object or person.

25. The method of claim 24, further comprising transmitting the signal from the plurality of proximity sensors to the main circuit board for processing based on the sensed distance between the hand puppet and the external object or person.

26. A method for the generation of real-time electronic sound in a hand puppet, said method comprising of the following steps:

inserting a user's hand into a cavity in the hand puppet, wherein said user's hand traverses a neck portion, a head portion before grabbing hold of a plurality of cavities located in a mouth portion of the hand puppet;

using the user's hand to perform a series of movements with the hand puppet including opening and closing of the mouth portion of the hand puppet, sensing a distance when the mouth portion is opening and closing, squeezing and applying pressure using the mouth portion of the hand puppet solely on itself or on an external object, detecting the presence or absence of an external object or a person, moving the head portion and the mouth portion up and down, to the left and to the right, forward and backward, and in circular motions; and

generating sounds based on the movements of the hand puppet.

27. The method of claim 26, wherein the mouth portion of the hand puppet is comprised of an upper jaw, a lower jaw, a tongue and a nose.
