CLAIMS

What is claimed is:

1. A dressing for treating a tissue site with negative pressure, comprising:

a manifold comprising a first side, a second side, a perimeter side, and a plurality of through- holes extending from the first side to the second side; and

a contact layer comprising collagen applied to the first side of the manifold.

2. The dressing of claim 1, wherein the collagen is a collagen foam having open pores.

3. The dressing of claim 1, wherein the collagen is a collagen film.

4. The dressing of claim 1, wherein the collagen is a collagen film having perforations.

5. The dressing of claim 4, wherein the perforations have a diameter of between 1 mm and 5 mm.

6. The dressing of claim 1, wherein the contact layer comprises a film having fenestrations.

7. The dressing of claim 1, wherein the contact layer has a thickness in a range of 1 mm to 5 mm.

8. The dressing of claim 1, wherein the contact layer comprises at least two layers of collagen.

9. The dressing of claim 1, wherein the contact layer further comprises glycerol.

10. The dressing of claim 1, further comprising a glycerol coating disposed on the manifold, between the first side of the manifold and the contact layer and between the perimeter side of the manifold and the contact layer.

11. The dressing of claim 1, wherein the contact layer has a density of between 0.012 g/cm3 and 0.020 g/cm3.

12. The dressing of claim 1, wherein the manifold comprises foam.

13. The dressing of claim 12, wherein the foam is a polymer foam.

14. The dressing of claim 12, wherein the foam is a polyurethane ether foam.

15. The dressing of claim 12, wherein the foam is a reticulated polyurethane ether foam.

16. The dressing of claim 1, wherein the manifold has a thickness of between 2.0 mm and 5.0 mm.

17. The dressing of claim 1, wherein the manifold has a thickness of between 3.0 mm and 4.0 mm.

18. The dressing of claim 1, wherein the plurality of through-holes of the manifold comprises:

a center hole; and

a plurality of peripheral holes arranged in a concentric pattern around the center hole.

19. The dressing of claim 18, wherein each of the plurality of peripheral holes of the manifold has an area on the second side of the manifold of between 0.50 cm2 and 2.00 cm2.

20. The dressing of any preceding claim, wherein the contact layer covers the plurality of through- holes.

21. The dressing of any preceding claim, wherein the plurality of through-holes are configured to collapse laterally.

22. The dressing of any preceding claim, wherein the collagen is applied to the perimeter side.

23. The dressing of claim 1, further comprising a filler disposed adjacent to a central portion of the second side of the manifold.

24. The dressing of claim 1, further comprising:

a filler disposed adjacent to a central portion of the second side of the manifold; and a cover disposed above the filler and configured to form a seal with the tissue site.

25. The dressing of claim 24, wherein the cover comprises a polymeric drape and an adherent coating adapted to sealably couple the polymeric drape to the tissue site.

26. A system for treating a tissue site, comprising:

the dressing of any of claims 1-25;

a filler disposed adjacent to a central portion of the second side of the manifold; and a cover disposed above the filler and configured to form a seal with the tissue site.

27. The system of claim 26, further comprising a negative-pressure source adapted to be fluidly coupled to the dressing.

28. The system of claim 27, further comprising a fluid container adapted to be fluidly coupled between the dressing and the negative -pressure source.

29. A dressing for treating a tissue site, comprising:

a manifold pocket, comprising:

a base layer having a first side, a second side, and a perimeter edge, and a border layer disposed around the perimeter edge of the base layer and extending upwards from the second side of the base layer; and

a manifold having a first side and a second side, wherein the manifold is adapted to be positioned within the manifold pocket.

30. The dressing of claim 29, wherein the manifold is positioned within the manifold pocket such that the first side of the manifold is adjacent to the second side of the base layer, and the border layer of the manifold pocket is in contact with a perimeter surface of the manifold.

31. The dressing of claim 29, wherein the border layer of the manifold pocket is approximately perpendicular to the base layer of the manifold pocket.

32. The dressing of claim 29, wherein the border layer has a height of between 1.0 cm and 10.0 cm.

33. The dressing of claim 29, wherein the manifold pocket comprises collagen.

34. The dressing of claim 29, wherein the manifold pocket comprises a collagen foam.

35. The dressing of claim 29, wherein the manifold pocket comprises a collagen film.

36. The dressing of claim 29, wherein the manifold pocket comprises perforations.

37. The dressing of claim 29, wherein the manifold pocket comprises a collagen film having fenestrations.

38. The dressing of claim 29, wherein the manifold pocket comprises at least two layers of collagen.

39. The dressing of claim 29, wherein the manifold comprises foam.

40. The dressing of claim 29, wherein the foam is a reticulated polyurethane ether foam.

41. The dressing of any of claims 29-40, further comprising a glycerol coating disposed on the first side of the manifold and on the perimeter surface of the manifold.

42. The dressing of any of claims 29-41, wherein the manifold comprises:

a center hole; and

a plurality of peripheral holes arranged around the center hole.

43. The dressing of claim 42, wherein:

the center hole has an area on the second side of the manifold of between 0.50 cm2 and 2.00 cm2; and

each of the plurality of peripheral holes has an area on the second side of the manifold of between 0.50 cm2 and 2.00 cm2.

44. The dressing of any of claims 29-43, wherein the manifold pocket comprises a hydrophilic collagen adapted to maintain its structure for at least 3 days.

45. The dressing of any of claims 29-44, wherein the manifold pocket is adapted to become hydrated and have a low surface-friction with the tissue site.

46. The dressing of any of claims 29-45, wherein the manifold pocket is adapted to contract with the manifold under the application of negative pressure.

47. The dressing of any of claims 29-45, wherein the manifold pocket comprises gelatin.

48. The dressing of any of claims 29-46, wherein the manifold pocket comprises a gelatin foam.

49. The dressing of any of claims 29-47, wherein the manifold pocket and the manifold each have a plurality of sizing perforations dispersed radially from a center region to a peripheral region of the dressing.

50. The dressing of any of claims 29-47, wherein the manifold pocket and the manifold each have a plurality of sectioning perforations arranged in a pattern that defines a plurality of sub-regions of the dressing.

51. The dressing of claim 50, wherein each of the plurality of sub-regions of the dressing is configured to be removable.

52. A method of configuring a dressing to be applied to a tissue site, comprising:

forming a pocket comprising collagen, wherein the pocket has a base layer and a border layer forming a central cavity; and

disposing a manifold within the central cavity of the pocket.

53. The method of claim 52, further comprising applying a coating to the manifold prior to disposing the manifold within the central cavity of the pocket.

54. The method of claim 53, wherein the coating comprises glycerol.

55. The method of any of claims 52-53, further comprising:

removing the manifold from the central cavity of the pocket; and

disposing a replacement manifold within the central cavity of the pocket.

56. The method of any of claims 53-55, further comprising reducing the size of the dressing by: making a first cut and a second cut through a portion of the pocket and a portion of the

manifold;

removing a segment of the pocket and a segment of the manifold between the first cut and the second cut; and

joining remaining portions of the pocket and the manifold adjacent to the first cut and the second cut to each other.

57. The method of any of claims 53-56, wherein the pocket comprises foam having perforations.

58. The method of claim 57, wherein the perforations have a diameter of between 2 mm and 4 mm.

59. A method of treating a compartmented wound site, comprising:

opening the compartmented wound site to form an open cavity;

deploying within the compartmented wound site the dressing of any of claims 1-20 or claims 25-48;

connecting a negative-pressure connector subsystem to the dressing;

deploying a cover to form a fluid seal over the open cavity;

coupling the negative-pressure connector subsystem to a negative-pressure source; and activating the negative-pressure source.

60. The method of claim 59, wherein the compartmented wound site comprises a peritoneal or abdominal cavity.

61. The systems, apparatuses, and methods substantially as described herein.
