(EN): An electromagnetic intramedullary nail screw positioning system is used to assist an orthopaedic surgeon to correctly aligned a screw drill guide with a screw receiving aperture in an intramedullary nail during surgery. However due to the large number of different types of intramedullary nail, the system must be calibrated during each surgery. An improved calibration system is described that no longer requires the surgeon to perform the calibration during the surgery in order to save time and improve robustness. The system is periodically calibrated and a memory stores offset information for a range of nails types relative to a reference nail. During surgery, the surgeon enters a nail identifier, and the system looks up the associated offset and applies this offset to the measured signals to guide alignment of the screw drill guide with the screw receiving aperture.
(FR): La présente invention concerne un système de mise en place de clou-vis intramédullaire électromagnétique utilisé pour aider un chirurgien orthopédique à aligner correctement un guide de foret à vis avec une ouverture de réception de vis dans un clou intramédullaire pendant une intervention chirurgicale. Cependant, du fait du grand nombre de types différents de clous intramédullaires, le système doit être étalonné à chaque intervention chirurgicale. L'invention concerne un système d'étalonnage amélioré qui ne nécessite plus que le chirurgien effectue l'étalonnage pendant l'intervention chirurgicale afin d'économiser du temps et d'améliorer la solidité. Le système est étalonné périodiquement et une mémoire stocke des informations de décalage pour une plage de types de clous se rapportant à un clou de référence. Pendant l'intervention chirurgicale, le chirurgien entre un identifiant de clou, et le système recherche le décalage associé et applique ce décalage aux signaux mesurés pour guider l'alignement du guide-foret à vis avec l'ouverture de réception de vis.
