(EN): The present invention relates to an apparatus for preventing the reverse movement of an escalator, comprising: a ratchet wheel (220) fixed to a driving shaft (142), which has a driving wheel (140) for moving steps while rotating by receiving power through a driving motor (100), so as to rotate with the same, and stopping the rotation thereof by a stopper when a ratchet pawl (242) is caught, thereby stopping the rotation of the driving wheel (140); and a solenoid (280) for performing control such that the ratchet pawl (242) is caught by the ratchet wheel (220) when the driving wheel (140) rotates abnormally. Therefore, if the driving wheel (140) rotates abnormally, the solenoid (280) is operated such that the ratchet pawl (242) is caught by the ratchet wheel (220), thereby stopping the rotation of the ratchet wheel (220) and resulting in the stopping of the operation of the driving wheel (140), and thus when the escalator abnormally operates, the rotation of the driving wheel immediately stops so as to stop the operation of the escalator, thereby preventing a reverse movement.
