MEDICAMENT DELIVERY DEVICE COMPRISING A WIPE ASSEMBLY

TECHNICAL FIELD

The present disclosure relates to a medicament delivery device comprising a wipe assembly, and in particular to a sterilizing swab protected by a sealing member.

BACKGROUND

Today's medicament delivery devices for self-administration need to be intuitive to handle and easy to use. In order to improve a patient's adherence to a given prescription, it is important that the he or she is able to properly administrate the medication according to the prescription, and to be able to do so without being required to study a lengthy handbook.

To avoid infections, it may be advantageous to clean and disinfect the injection site before administering a dose of medicament. However, a user may not always have access to clean water, soap, or other cleaning utilities. It would therefore be convenient if means for sterilising the injection site was included in the medicament delivery device. At the same time, it is important not to reduce the functionality of the delivery device, or to lower its attractiveness in any way.

SUMMARY

In the present disclosure, when the term "distal" is used, this refers to the direction pointing away from the dose delivery site. When the term "distal part/end" is used, this refers to the part/end of the delivery device, or the parts/ends of the members thereof, which under use of the medicament delivery device is/are located furthest away from the dose delivery site. Correspondingly, when the term "proximal" is used, this refers to the direction pointing to the dose delivery site. When the term "proximal part/end" is used, this refers to the part/end of the delivery device, or the parts/ends of the members thereof, which under use of the medicament delivery device is/are located closest to the dose delivery site.

Further, the term "longitudinal", with or without "axis", refers to a direction or an axis through the device or components thereof in the direction of the longest extension of the device or the component.

The term "lateral", with or without "axis", refers to a direction or an axis through the device or components thereof in the direction of the broadest extension of the device or the component. "Lateral" may also refer to a position to the side of a

"longitudinally" elongated body.

In a similar manner, the terms "radial" or "transversal", with or without "axis", refers to a direction or an axis through the device or components thereof in a direction generally perpendicular to the longitudinal direction, e.g. "radially outward" would refer to a direction pointing away from the longitudinal axis.

Also, if nothing else is stated, in the following description wherein the mechanical structure of the device and the mechanical interconnection of its components is described, the device is in an initial non-activated or non-operated state.

In view of the foregoing, a general object of the present disclosure is to provide a medicament delivery device comprising a wipe assembly, which wipe assembly is easy to use and does not compromise the function or the appearance of the delivery device.

According to a main aspect of the disclosure it is characterised by a medicament delivery device comprising a housing member and a wipe assembly, the wipe assembly comprising, a sterilising swab, and a sealing member, wherein the sealing member is attached to the housing member, and wherein the sterilising swab is kept in a sealed compartment by the sealing member, which sealed compartment may be opened to extract the sterilising swab.

The sterilising swab is protected by the sealing member. The sealing swab is a piece of fabric, and the sealing member and the sealed compartment may therefore also have low profiles which do not significantly alter the outer shape of the medicament

delivery device. The sealed compartment is also arranged to be opened so that the sterilising swab may be easily extracted and used to clean the injection site before medicament delivery.

According to another aspect of the disclosure the housing member is part of an outer casing of the medicament delivery device so that the wipe assembly is easily accessible on an outer surface of the medicament delivery device.

According to another aspect of the disclosure the housing member is a removable cap of the medicament delivery device. For some medicament delivery devices it may be preferable to arrange the wipe assembly on a removable cap.

According to another aspect of the disclosure the sterilising swab is a wet wipe. Wet wipes are easy to use and to produce.

According to another aspect of the disclosure the wet wipe comprises a sterilising substance such as alcohol or chlorhexidine.

According to another aspect of the disclosure the sealing member is a flexible adhesive film which may be removed by peeling the adhesive film off the housing member such that the sealed compartment is opened, to enable the sterilising swab to be extracted. The sterilising swab is held in a hermetically sealed environment between the adhesive film and the housing member until the sealed compartment is opened by a first-time removal of the adhesive film. The adhesive film may also be re-attached to the housing member after removal of the sterilising swab to restore an outer appearance of the housing member and the adhesive film.

According to an alternative aspect of the disclosure the sealing member is an adhesive flexible plastic pocket, forming the sealed compartment, which flexible plastic pocket may be opened to enable the sterilising swab to be extracted. The sterilising swab is held in a hermetically sealed environment within the plastic pocket until the plastic pocket is opened for a first time. The plastic pocket may be reclosed after removal of the sterilising swab to restore an outer appearance of the housing member and the plastic pocket.

According to another aspect of the disclosure the sealing member is an adhesive label of a medicament delivery device. The wipe assembly may thus be masked by the label.

According to another aspect of the disclosure the medicament delivery device is an autoinjector, a pen injector or a safety syringe.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

An exemplary embodiment of the present disclosure is shown in Figs 1 a and 1 b, where a medicament delivery device 10 comprises a housing member 15 and a wipe assembly. The wipe assembly comprises a sterilising swab 30, and a sealing member 20. The sealing member 20 is attached to the housing member 15 and the sterilising swab 30 is kept in a sealed compartment by the sealing member 20, which sealed compartment may be opened to extract the sterilising swab 30.

The sterilising swab 30 may be important before using a medicament delivery device that punctures the skin of a user, especially in warm and humid environments where bacteria thrive. Such injection devices may be needleless injectors or needle-based injection devices, i.e. auto-injectors, pen injectors, safety syringes, etc. The medicament delivery device of the present disclosure is preferable a single-use device.

The housing member 15 may be an outer casing of the medicament delivery device 10, such as shown in Figs 1 a and 1 b. An outer casing of a medicament delivery device is usually a tubular plastic casing which may be held in the user's hand when operating the delivery device. The housing member 15 may alternatively be a removable cap (Figs 3a and 3b) which covers an injection needle (not shown) of the medicament delivery device 10.

The sealing member 20 may be a single sheet, non-porous flexible adhesive film, comprising adhesive surfaces 25 along its edges. Alternatively, the sealing member 20 may comprise a double-sheet, non-porous adhesive flexible plastic pocket, Figs 2a and 2b, comprising adhesive surfaces 25 along mutually facing edges of the two sheets, for sealing the pocket.

Generally, the sealed compartment is formed by the sealing member 20 such that the sealed compartment is substantially flat along a surface of the housing member 15. The sterilising swab 30 may thus be held directly against the housing member 15 by the single-sheet sealing member 20, whereby the adhesive surfaces 25 of the sealing member 20 enclose the sterilising swab 30 between the housing member 15 and the sealing member 20. Alternatively, the double-sheet sealing member may be an adhesive flexible plastic pocket, forming the sealed compartment, or pocket, between the sheets by means of the adhesive surfaces 25. The adhesive pocket, comprising the sterilising swab, may be attached to the housing member 15.

Since the wipe assembly is flat against the surface the housing member 15, the sealing member may advantageously comprise a label of the medicament delivery device 10. The label may contain a logo, or text, such as instructions of use, or images.

The sterilising swab 30 may be a wet wipe comprising a sterilising substance, such as alcohol or chlorhexidine. The sealing member 20 hermetically seals the sterilising swab 30 in the sealed compartment until the compartment is opened for a first time. A lip 27, exemplified in Figs 3a and 3b, may be provided for the user to open the sealed compartment formed by the sealing member 20. In case of a single-sheet

sealing member, the adhesive film is peeled off the housing member 15, whereas in the case of a double-sheet pocket, the sheet that is not attached to the housing member is peeled off the sheet that is attached to the housing member, to open the pocket, i.e. the sealed compartment.

Preferably, the adhesive surfaces allow the compartment to be re-closed after extracting the sterilising swab 30 such that an outer appearance of the medicament delivery device 10 is not compromised by an open compartment. The appearance is especially important when the sealing member 20 comprises a label. The sterilising swab may also be replaced in the compartment, as litter, before re-closing the compartment, in order to be later discarded together with the used medicament delivery device.

Prior to administrating a dose of medicament, the user opens the sealed

compartment, such as by pulling the lip 27 of the sealing member 20. The user extracts the sterilising swab 30 from the compartment and applies the swab to clean the skin at the injection site. The sterilising swab is then considered to be spent and may be replaced in the compartment, or discarded, before re-closing the

compartment. The medicament delivery device 10 may subsequently be activated and applied to puncture the skin at the injection site without risk of infecting the user. After use, the medicament delivery device 10 may be discarded in a safe way, for instance in a sharps bin.
