What is claimed is:
1. A method for mitigating effects of undesired switch back of a mobile node between a first network and a second network in a media independent preauthentication framework, comprising: a) using a location-based algorithm to mitigate repeated switch back of the mobile node between said first and second networks, said location-based algorithm including determining past instances of mobile node switching between networks and determining a criterion for handoff based on said instances; b) maintaining contexts related to the first network for a period of time such that the contexts are recoverable when the mobile node returns to the first network; c) having said mobile node use said contexts upon returning to said first network; and d) having said mobile node pre-authenticate with said second network before said mobile node moves from said first network to said second network.
2. The method of claim 1, wherein said contexts are stored in digital data storage on said mobile node and include data related to security associations, IP addresses, or tunnels established.
3. The method of claim 1, wherein said first network is for a first media and said second network is for a different, second media; wherein either said first media is cellular and said second media is wireless LAN, or said first media is wireless LAN and said second media is cellular.
4. A mobile node configured to mitigate effects of undesired switch back of the mobile node between a first network and a second network in a media independent pre-authentication framework, wherein the mobile node includes a processor coupled to a non-transitory memory that stores computer program instructions, wherein when the processor executes the computer program instructions, the mobile node is caused to: utilize a location-based algorithm to mitigate repeated switch back of the mobile node between said first and second networks, said location-based algorithm including
determining past instances of mobile node switching between networks and determining a criterion for handoff based on said instances; maintain contexts related to the first network for a period of time such that the contexts are recoverable when the mobile node returns to the first network; utilize said contexts upon returning to said first network; and pre-authenticate with said second network before said mobile node moves from said first network to said second network.
5. The mobile node of claim 4, further comprising digital data storage for storing said contexts in said mobile node, said contexts including data related to security associations, IP addresses, or tunnels established.
6. The mobile node of claim 4, wherein said first network is for a first media and said second network is for a different, second media; wherein either said first media is cellular and said second media is wireless LAN, or said first media is wireless LAN and said second media is cellular.
