são mostrados e descritos uma máquina de embalagem e um método para produzir uma unidade de embalagem (11, 11?) de um grupo de mangas de embalagem (2) que compreende uma pluralidade de mangas de embalagem verticais dobradas planas (p) e uma embalagem externa. a fim de reduzir os custos relativos ao material da própria embalagem externa e de reduzir ou evitar tanto quanto possível a poeira da caixa externa que resulta da desembalamento, bem como reduzir os resíduos resultantes da embalagem externa, é previsto que a máquina de embalagem inclua pelo menos uma unidade de transporte (43) para transportar o grupo de manga de embalagem (2) em uma direção de transporte perpendicular à extensão longitudinal do grupo de embalagem (2) e, pelo menos, uma unidade de embalagem externa (7) para preparar um material em folha com formato de embalagem externa (5) em uma posição base e, nesse sentido, visto na direção do transportador atrás do material em folha (5) na posição de base, é fornecida uma unidade de vedação (18) para vedar o material em folha (5) confinado no grupo de mangas de embalagem (2). isto é alcançado pelas seguintes etapas:¿ preparar o grupo de mangas de embalagem (2),¿ dispersar uma folha de material (5) em uma posição de base,¿ transportar o grupo de mangas de embalagem (2) em uma direção de transportador perpendicular à extensão longitudinal do grupo de mangas de embalagem (2) através do material em folha dispersado (5), em que o material em folha (5) é pré-tensionado,¿ passar o grupo de mangas de embalagem (2) de uma unidade de vedação (18) disposta atrás do material em folha (5) na posição de base vista na direção do transportador,¿ vedar o material em folha (5) por meio da unidade de vedação (18), e¿ separar o material em folha vedada (5) em uma área vedada (24).
