The invention relates to a method for producing technical silicon, wherein a mixture of a raw material mixture, which contains silicon dioxide and carbon, with a particulate mediator, which contains at least one of the elements C, O, Al and Si, is reacted in an electrical furnace, wherein the mixture is described by a dimensionless quantity K, wherein K has a value from 0 to 745 and is calculated as follows (equation 1), where (equation 2, equation 3, equation 4), wherein the meanings of ωΜ, εm,M, βRM, μC, d50,M, d90,RM, mM and mRM are explained in claim 1.
