CLAIMS

What is claimed is:

1. A component of an article of footwear, the component comprising: a first fiber layer comprising a first plurality of fibers; and a foundation scrim, wherein at least a portion of the foundation scrim is formed from a composition comprising a thermoplastic material, wherein at least one of a melt temperature and a softening temperature of the thermoplastic material is lower than at least one of a melt temperature, a softening temperature, and a decomposition temperature of the first plurality of fibers, and wherein at least a portion of the first plurality of fibers extends into the foundation scrim and is entangled with the foundation scrim.

2. The component of claim 1 , wherein the component is an upper of the article of footwear.

3. The component of claim 1, wherein the first plurality of fibers comprises a polymeric composition comprised of at least one polymer.

4. The component of claim 1, wherein the first fiber layer is a non- woven textile.

5. The component of claim 1, further comprising a second fiber layer comprised of a second plurality of fibers, wherein the first fiber layer is adjacent a first surface of the foundation scrim and the second fiber layer is adjacent an opposite second surface of the foundation scrim.

6. The component of claim 5, wherein at least one of the melt temperature and the softening temperature of the thermoplastic material that comprises the foundation scrim is lower than at least one of a melt temperature, a softening temperature, and a decomposition temperature of the second plurality of fibers, and wherein at least a portion of the second plurality of fibers extends into the foundation scrim and is entangled with the foundation scrim.

7. The component of claim 5, wherein the second plurality of fibers comprises a polymeric composition comprised of at least one polymer.

8. The component of claim 5, wherein the second fiber layer is a non-woven textile.

9. A component of an article of footwear, the component comprising: a first fiber layer comprising a first plurality of fibers; a second fiber layer comprising a second plurality of fibers; and a foundation scrim formed from a composition comprising a thermoplastic material, wherein at least one of a melt temperature and a softening temperature of the thermoplastic material is lower than at least one of a melt temperature, a softening temperature, and a decomposition temperature of the first plurality of fibers, wherein at least one of the melt temperature and the softening temperature of the thermoplastic material is lower than at least one of a melt temperature, a softening temperature, and a decomposition temperature of the second plurality of fibers, and wherein the foundation scrim is entangled between at least a portion of the first plurality of fibers and at least a portion of the second plurality of fibers.

10. The component of claim 9, wherein the component is an upper of the article of footwear.

11. The component of claim 9, wherein the first plurality of fibers comprises a polymeric composition comprised of at least one polymer.

12. The component of claim 9, wherein the first fiber layer is a non-woven textile.

13. The component of claim 9, wherein the second plurality of fibers comprises a polymeric composition comprised of at least one polymer.

14. The component of claim 9, wherein the second fiber layer is a non-woven textile.

15. A method of forming a component of an article of footwear, the method comprising: placing a foundation scrim formed from a composition comprising a thermoplastic material adjacent a first fiber layer, the first fiber layer comprising a first plurality of fibers, wherein at least one of a melt temperature and a softening temperature of the thermoplastic material is lower than at least one of a melt temperature, a softening temperature, or decomposition temperature of the first plurality of fibers; entangling at least a first portion of the first plurality of fibers with the foundation scrim; and applying energy to the component such that the thermoplastic material achieves a temperature that is the at least one of the melt temperature and the softening temperature of the thermoplastic material and that is less than the at least one of the melt temperature, the softening temperature, and the decomposition temperature of the first plurality of fibers.

16. The method of claim 15, wherein the foundation scrim coats at least a portion of the first plurality of fibers subsequent to the application of energy.

17. The method of claim 15, wherein the entangling is performed, at least in part, with one or more barbs of a barbed needle, a structured needle, and a fluid stream.

18. The method of claim 15, further comprising: entangling at least a first portion of a second plurality of fibers with the foundation scrim, wherein the at least one of the melt temperature and the softening temperature of the thermoplastic material that comprises the foundation scrim is lower than at least one of a melt temperature, a softening temperature, and a decomposition temperature of the second plurality of fibers; and applying energy to the component such that the thermoplastic material achieves a temperature that is the at least one of the melt temperature and the softening temperature of thermoplastic material and that is less than the at least one of the melt temperature, the softening temperature, and the decomposition temperature of the second plurality of fibers.

19. The method of claim 18, wherein the foundation scrim coats, at least a portion of the second plurality of fibers subsequent to the application of energy.

20. The method of claim 18, wherein the entangling of the foundation scrim and at least the first portion of the second plurality of fibers is performed, at least in part, with one or more barbs of a barbed needle, a structured needle, and a fluid stream.
