Claims

1. A method for performing ranging at a Machine to Machine (M2M) device in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:
receiving an Advanced Air Interface-System Configuration Descriptor (AAI-SCD) message including a M2M ranging indicator indicating M2M ranging configuration; and
performing ranging according to the M2M ranging configuration, if the M2M ranging configuration does not prohibit network reentry,
wherein the M2M ranging configuration is one of normal ranging, M2M dedicated ranging, and M2M network reentry prohibition.
2. The method according to claim 1, wherein the M2M dedicated ranging is performed using information about M2M dedicated ranging resources.
3. The method according to claim 2, wherein the M2M dedicated ranging resources are allocated by a Base Station (BS).
4. The method according to claim 2, wherein the information about the M2M dedicated ranging resources is transmitted in the AAI-SCD message.
5. The method according to claim 1, wherein the normal ranging is performed using information included in a Secondary-SuperFrame Header (S-SFH).
6. The method according to claim 1, wherein the M2M ranging indicator is comprised of 2-bits to indicate the M2M ranging configuration.
7. A method for transmitting ranging information at a Base Station (BS) in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:
determining a M2M ranging configuration;
including an M2M ranging indicator indicating the determined ranging configuration in an Advanced Air Interface-System Configuration Descriptor (AAI-SCD) message; and
transmitting the AAI-SCD message,
wherein the M2M ranging configuration is one of normal ranging, M2M dedicated ranging, and M2M network reentry prohibition.
8. The method according to claim 7, wherein the M2M dedicated ranging is performed using information about M2M dedicated ranging resources.
9. The method according to claim 8, wherein the M2M dedicated ranging resources are allocated by the BS.
10. The method according to claim 8, wherein the information about the M2M dedicated ranging resources is transmitted in the AAI-SCD message.
11. The method according to claim 7, wherein the normal ranging is performed using information included in a Secondary-SuperFrame Header (S-SFH).
12. The method according to claim 7, wherein the M2M ranging indicator is comprised of 2-bits to indicate the M2M ranging configuration.
13. A Machine to Machine (M2M) device for performing ranging in a wireless communication system, comprising:
a Radio Frequency (RF) unit; and
a processor,
wherein the processor performing ranging according to M2M ranging configuration indicated by an M2M ranging indicator included in an Advanced Air Interface-System Configuration Descriptor (AAI-SCD) message received through the RF unit, if the M2M ranging configuration does not prohibit network reentry, and wherein the ranging configuration is one of normal ranging, M2M dedicated ranging, and M2M network reentry prohibition.
14. A Base Station (BS) for transmitting ranging information in a wireless communication system, the BS comprising:
a Radio Frequency (RF) unit; and
a processor,
wherein the processor determines a M2M ranging configuration and transmits an Advanced Air Interface-System Configuration Descriptor (AAI-SCD) message including an M2M ranging indicator indicating the determined M2M ranging configuration through the RF unit; and
wherein the M2M ranging configuration is one of normal ranging, M2M dedicated ranging, and M2M network reentry prohibition.
