CLAIMS
1. A process for preparing a ruthenium-carrying alumina, the process comprising the steps of:
suspending alumina in a solution containing trivalent ruthenium and
adding a base to the suspension.
2. A process for oxidizing an alcohol, the process comprising the step of:
contacting the alcohol with molecular oxygen in the presence of a ruthenium-carrying alumina which is prepared by suspending alumina in a solution containing trivalent ruthenium and adding a base to the suspension.
3. A process for preparing a carbonyl compound, the process comprising the step of:
oxidizing an alcohol by the process according to claim
4. The process according to claim 3, wherein said alcohol is an alcohol represented by the formula (1):
wherein R1 represents a hydrogen atom; a hydrocarbon group which may optionally be substituted with at least one substituent selected from the group consisting of a halogen atom, a nitro group, an alkoxy group, a phenoxy group and an acyloxy group; or a heterocyclic group, and said carbonyl compound is an aldehyde represented by the formula (4):
wherein R1 is the same as defined above, and/or a carboxylic acid represented by the formula (5):
wherein R1 is the same as defined above.
5. The process according to claim 3, wherein said alcohol is an alcohol represented by the formula (2):
wherein R2 and R3 represent independently each other a hydrocarbon group which may optionally be substituted with at least one substituent selected from the group consisting of a halogen atom, a nitro group, an alkoxy group, a phenoxy group and an acyloxy group; or a heterocyclic group, while R2 and R3 may be combined to form a ring together with the carbon atom to which they are bonded, and said carbonyl compound is a ketone represented by the formula (6):
wherein R2 and R3 are the same as defined above.
6. The process according to claim 3, wherein said alcohol is an alcohol represented by the formula (3):
wherein X is a single bond or a divalent hydrocarbon group, and R4 and R5 represent independently each other a hydrogen atom; a hydrocarbon group which may optionally be substituted with at least one substituent selected from the
group consisting of a halogen atom, a nitro group, an alkoxy group, a phenoxy group and an acyloxy group; or a heterocyclic group, while R4 and R5 may be combined to form a ring together with the carbon atoms to which R4, R5 and X are bonded,
and said carbonyl compound is a compound represented by the formula (7):
wherein X is the same as defined above; and R6 represent a hydrogen atom or a hydroxyl group when R4 is a hydrogen atom or R6 is the same as R4 when R4 is a group other than a hydrogen atom; and R7 represents a hydrogen atom or a hydroxyl group when R5 is a hydrogen atom or R7 is the same as R5 when R5 is a group other than a hydrogen atom.
