Darüber hinaus betrifft die Erfindung ein Verfahren zur Diagnose der Wirksamkeit der Behandlung einer Haarwuchsstörung bei einem Säuger, wobei man die Expression von mindestens zwei zyklisch exprimierten Genen in einer Probe analysiert und wobei (a) eines der Gene die maximale Expressionshöhe während des Anagens aufweist, während das (b) zweite Gen die maximale Expressionshöhe während des Catagens oder des Telogens aufweist. Vorzugsweise wird die Expression weiterer Gene mit zyklischem Expressionsverlauf in dem erfindungsgemässen Verfahren analysiert. Darüber hinaus betrifft die Erfindung Verfahren zur Isolierung von Inhibitoren von Haarwuchsstörungen und zur Verbesserung solcher Inhibitoren. Schliesslich betrifft die Erfindung Verfahren zur Herstellung von Arzneimitteln oder Medizinprodukten, in denen der identifizierte oder verbesserte Inhibitor mit einem pharmazeutisch verträglichen Träger oder Verdünnungsmittel formuliert wird.
