A method is disclosed whereby the floatable material harvester is used to harvest an absorbent material (e.g., wood chips, straw, perlite, zeolite, polypropylene mesh, titanate nanofibres) that has absorbed a pollutant (e.g., oil, solvent, radioactive isotopes) from a beach or in water.

Either the weight on the thigh and buttock (34) on the support strap (24), a gear lock (46) on the reel (42), or a union between a hook tab (56) which attaches to the support strap (24) and a pile strip (58) which attaches to the ski apparel holds the support strap (24) taut and maintains the legs, boots, and skis of a skier in the elevated position. Thus, the apparatus supports the legs, boots, and skis of a skier while riding on a ski lift chair and eases the strain on the skier's knees and legs.

A method and apparatus are described for continuously sampling a process stream, or reservoir of aqueous cellulosic pulp and detecting oversize contaminants in the sampled stream. This serves the overall objective of estimating the level of contamination in the process stream or reservoir during a given period of production; the method may include the following stages: 1) a continuous sample stream is drawn from the process or main stream, 2) the stream is passed through a centrifugal device which divides the sampled stream according to density, 3) the stream with the higher level of contaminants from the centrifugal device is passed to a screen which isolates the contaminants, and 4) the contaminants are flushed from the screen so that they can be quantified; these measurements are used to assess the purity of the material being produced. One useful application of this invention is to assess the presence of trace amounts of plastic contaminants in the production of the cellulosic pulp. Compared to manual methods for inspecting for plastic, this invention provides a measurement which is more accurate, more convenient, and less subjective.

A remote data collection system, which may be used in a vehicle such as an aircraft or a ground vehicle, includes a directional sensor, such as one or more cameras, for sensing a characteristic of interest and providing sensor data. The system further includes a global positioning system (GPS) receiver for providing GPS data representative of the position of the sensor, an inertial measurement unit (IMU) for providing IMU data representative of the attitude of the sensor, a processing unit and a storage unit. The processing unit determines geographic data referenced to the sensor data in response to the GPS data and the IMU data. The processing unit may utilize an error model to determine IMU errors which may be used in determining the geographic data with high accuracy. The sensor data and the geographic data are stored in the data storage unit for subsequent use. The system may include a stabilized platform on which the sensor and the IMU are mounted. The stabilized platform is rotated about at least one axis of rotation to control the sensing direction of the sensor as the vehicle moves.

The invention provides an assembly for hydrostatic testing of welds between components, such as but not limited to welds which connect components such as nozzles (2) or patches (40) to a pressure vessel (1). A sealing body (8) is secured against one of the components to define a sealed space (25) adjacent to the weld (5) to be tested. The body is secured by at least one tie rod (9), positioned to pull the body against the component by tightening of a nut (12). Pressure testing can then be carried out by introducing pressurized fluid into the sealed space and applying appropriate monitoring techniques to check for leakage.
