| PCT/US2004/016046 | DYNO NOBEL, INC. | OFCA, William, W. | ||||
A device for initiating an electric detonator utilizing an open circuit to decrease occurrences of accidental detonation. The device may include an initiator housing (12), at least two conductor pins (14) disposed through the initiator housing and spaced within the housing such that they are electrically isolated from one another, and a primer spot material (16) disposed between the conductor pins. The primer spot material may be comprised of a mixture of reactive material and metal component. The primer spot material has electrical properties which provide resistance to conducting an electrical current to maintain an open circuit condition prior to occurrence of a breakdown voltage which is dependent upon the amount of metal component in the primer spot material. Subsequently, the primer spot material has electrical properties which provide a conductive medium on the occurrence of an electrical arc between the conductive pins that arises at voltages in excess of the breakdown voltage. Finally, the electrical properties are such that the electrical arc provides energy to form a plasma from the primer spot material, leading to initiation of the detonator.

| PCT/US2004/011266 | ESCO CORPORATION | BRISCOE, Terry, L. | ||||
A lock (10) that includes a wedge (12) and spool (14) are used to releasably secure separable components of an assembly together. The wedge (12) and spool (14) are threadedly coupled together to drive the wedge into and out of an opening in the assembly without hammering or prying. The direct coupling of the wedge (12) and spool eliminates the need for bolts, washers, nuts and other hardware so as to minimize the number of parts. As a result, the lock is inexpensive to make, easy to use, and unlikely to become inoperative because of lost or broken parts or due to fines or other difficulties encountered in harsh digging environments. Further, the wedge (12) can be driven into the assembly to provide the degree of tightness necessary for the intended operation and/or to re-tighten the assembly after incurring wear during use. A latch assembly (56) is preferably provided to securely hold the wedge (12) in place and avoid and undesired loss of parts during use.

| PCT/RU2003/000170 | SHAPOVALOV, Viatcheslav Dmitrievich | SHAPOVALOV, Viatcheslav Dmitrievich | ||||
The method is referred to hydrometallurgical process and serves for recovery of nonferrous, rare and precious metals from sulfide minerals and concentrates. The invention is aimed at creating conditions for the most complete extraction of metals, preventing formation of elementary sulfur. The objective is attained by means of the following: the hydrometallurgical method of sulfide minerals and concentrates processing, which involves sulfide minerals oxidation in aqueous medium using nitrogen oxides, envisages that the sulfide materials containing slurry are subjected to oxidation of the sulfide and the oxidation is realized under controlled conditions of the slurry acidity, i.e. with constant neutralization of sulfuric acid formed as a result of the sulfides oxidation, moreover, sulfuric acid is neutralized to acidity level, at which no formation of elementary sulfur occurs, while natural or artificial substances, such as CaC03, MgC03, Ca(OH)2, CaO, NaOH, CaHP04 etc., are used as acidity neutralizers; the choice of a specific neutralizer is dictated by the necessity of formation of slurry neutralization products with assigned physicochemical properties: filterability, slurry thickening, arsenic substance insolubility, nontoxicity and other required properties. Oxidation of sulfide minerals is realized under agitation providing sufficient mass exchange and efficient occurrence of chemical reactions. Oxidation is realized in the temperature range of 20-90°C, mainly in the range of 65-85°C. The liquid-to-solid ratio may vary from 1:1 to 5:1, depending on effectiveness of the required precipitate formation and proceeding of sulfide oxidation reactions. Nitric and nitrous acids, as well as their oxides, mainly nitrous acid, HN02, and its oxide, N203, are used as oxidizing agents. Regeneration processes of NO to N203 are also described.

| 10. | WO | WO/2004/087970 - METHOD FOR RECOVERY OF NONFERROUS, RARE AND PRECIOUS METALS FROM ROBUST MINERALS | 14.10.2004 |
| PCT/RU2003/000131 | SHAPOVALOV, Viatcheslav Dmitrievich | SHAPOVALOV, Viatcheslav Dmitrievich | ||||
The method is referred to hydrometallurgy process and it serves for recovery of nonferrous, rare and precious metals from robust (hard to process) minerals, which may contain natural carbon or other robust compounds. This invention is aimed at increasing the recovery of nonferrous, rare and precious metals from robust minerals with simultaneous reduction of processing costs. The objective is attained, as the method for recovery of nonferrous, rare and precious metals from robust minerals envisages the processing of robust carbon-containing minerals by oxygen-containing oxidant with subsequent extraction of precious metal compounds from liquid phase, moreover, the treatment of robust carbon-containing minerals by oxygen-containing oxidant is performed in the presence of reducing agents featuring donor-acceptor properties, which are manifested in the fact that at the first stage of chemical reactions the reducing agents give their electrons to oxygen-containing oxidant and, as a result, form a stronger oxidant than the initial one, in the from of short-lived radicals and intermediate oxidation products of donor-acceptor reducing agents, which are oxidants, as well.
